Using Software
Using speed reading software
Learning to speed read used to involve either attending classes or completing a correspondence course. Devices were developed to aid students with minimizing eye fixation times, increasing focal areas and ensuring they read text only once without any mental “vocalization.
An example of such device involved inserting a cardboard card into a slot at a designated position: A lever was pulled and as students watched the screen and pressed the release button, a word would fly through the viewing window. Students would begin with slow speeds of around half a second, using two digit numbers or three letter words. As their accuracy improved, they moved up through the cards to eleven digit numbers and whole sentences and speeds were increased too.
Thankfully now days, learning rapid reading techniques is so much easier and more interesting! Speed reading software has been designed so all people have to do is click the mouse and can even involve playing games.
The most important thing when learning to speed read is to stop old habits that slow down most readers: “Saying” words in the mind while reading, re-reading words and reading single words at once are all part of these. Speed reading software will help completely change these habits through teaching how to see many words at once and quickly and a variety of techniques make the process fun as well.
Some examples of these techniques are following words on the screen or reading words flashed for only fractions of a second. Following highlighted words across the screen will train the eyes and mind to only read a word once before moving to the next word and so on and as the speed increases, so does the users reading ability.
Words, numbers or symbols flashing briefly on the display not only help with reading speed but also peripheral vision: Good reading programs will offer this training by randomization of the positions for the words being flashed, which means students need to be ready for anything and able to recall more than what is directly in front of them.
Learning rapid reading with speed reading software can be fun for the family or in the workplace. It is a great way for employees to exercise their eyes when they have been starring into the monitor all day and there is the added bonus for employers of increased productivity. Every person of any age can benefit from learning to read more quickly and recall what they have read with higher levels of accuracy and with speed reading software it can be a fun and competitive game everyone can enjoy.
Installing speed reading software on your home computer will give family and friends a challenge to talk about and learn from. Encouraging children to read is fantastic, but making reading easy for them is even better. Any person who reads quickly and with ease will not hesitate to pick up new reading material and scan through it, where as someone who finds reading a laborious chore will hesitate at reading the sports articles in the newspaper. Speed reading software can help and is a fun and effective way to fine tune reading skills that everyone relies on for their entire lives.
